I enjoy fishing, though I’m not much of a fisherman. If I lived anywhere close to this pier though, that might change. The Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier is 1471 feet long and claims to be the longest in the Gulf of Mexico. This is actually a newer one, replacing the original pier built in the 1930s.

A strange thing happens as you walk down the pier. The noise of the surf is strong as you cross the first quarter, but about half way out, it suddenly becomes much quieter as you step over deeper water, putting the surf behind you. Looking back over the waves towards the beach is a unique site you quickly appreciate. After I finished taking my photos that evening, I could have stayed out much longer than I did, but dinner was calling. I do have my priorities.
