It’s amazing how quiet and peaceful things are by the water just before sunrise. The water is smooth and the slightest sound seems to travel forever.

My focus was on the sunrise as I was shooting around a small pier, with the Pensacola  Beach “skyline” in the background. I looked over as this large crane came along and made himself comfortable. I had to move down the shore a bit to get a nice profile and had time for just one good shot before he moved, then flew away.

This is a great example of being aware of your surroundings as you shoot, even though you may be concentrating on something else. Sometimes it’s the unexpected opportunities that arise which end up being as good or better than the subject you set out for.
