The Cypress Island Nature Preserve at Lake Martin, just outside of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, is a wonderful place to experience the wildlife and native plants of the Louisiana swamps, either on foot or in a canoe or kayak. When we visited last month with my friend Andy Crawford and our wives, we went to see some of the birds nesting and decided to stay through sunset. The birds were too far and too few, but the sunset was worth the wait.
