There is a historical district on Galveston Island, called The Strand District. It’s a few streets of old buildings that house some really great shops, restaurants, clubs and more. It’s a fun place to walk around day or night with its antique gas lights and brick lined streets. It is the sight for many of Galveston’s events, like Dickens on the Strand and Mardi Gras.

Among the old buildings of the Strand, you can find the Compass Rose, a large terrazzo representation of a nautical compass placed in Sangerfest Park.
