South Main Baptist Church is the type of church they simply do not build any more. At least not in larger cities and that’s a shame. These days, bigger is supposed to be better. But while this sanctuary may not be the largest in Houston, it has to be one of the most elegant. Don’t get me wrong, you can worship God anywhere, but it never hurts to have a beautiful building to do it in.

I was recently given the opportunity to spend a few hours photographing their sanctuary. While some churches have large video screens, a stage for the band and other contemporary items, this more traditional approach is just fine for many people. I would like to visit some Sunday morning just to hear the pipe organ.

Taken with a seven exposure HDR sequence. this view is from the choir loft, looking towards the rear balcony.
