About the most wildlife you get in the suburbs are stray cats, squirrels and birds. If you’re really (un)lucky, you might see the rare armadillo or opossum. Most folks welcome the birds and some do their best to attract them. Each time I try a bird feeder, the squirrels come visiting and steal all the seed. If they save any for the birds, then they spill it in the grass and next spring I have more weeds than I can pull.
My parents have these little bird feeders that hang from an old play gym and sit empty until someone remembers to fill them up. At least the birds have a choice of “country barn” or “backwoods cabin” for their fine dining ambiance.
