You have probably figured out what this is by now. It’s the arms from a railroad crossing guard. The question is, were the arms going up or down?

It was late Saturday night (or early Sunday morning) and we were on our way home from shooting star photos. Between us and Houston was East Bernard. The sidewalks had long been rolled up and all was quite, so we decided to stop and photograph some old store fronts. We were almost ready to leave, when a train came racing through and seemed to wake everything up. A time exposure I was working on didn’t finish until the train was almost gone, so I shot the next best thing. The train had just past when I was able to shoot the crossing arms.
