Being a city of many cultures, it’s hard to find someone that was actually born in Houston. Oh sure, they’re out there. They’re just in the minority now. Houston is a representation of our nation, a melting pot of people from other countries. But if you look hard, you can still find a few originals out there. I’ve been here since before I started school, so I almost qualify.

But Sam Houston beats us all. He fought for the state and represented it in state and national politics. I’m just glad his name was easy to say and not something like Rickenbocker or Aethylswyth.
