There are only a handful of people how have the responsibility of moving large vehicles. Truck drivers, pilots, sea captains and train engineers are a few. Each person has a special skill set to for their unique mode of transportation. Engineers certainly win for the longest mode of transportation.
This locomotive cab is on Union Pacific 1982. You step in through a door in the front center, up some tight stairs and the station is on the left. Right behind you is a door that leads outside down the right side of the locomotive to move steps at the rear. I was told that this is an older model, but the controls are much the same on newer ones. On the long trips, I bet the engineer wishes the monitor in the console was an HD television. Regardless, he has a nice, high view of the countryside passing by as he travels the country.
