The essence of freedom can be a hard concept to show symbolically, but the sculpture “The Day the Wall Came Down” depicts it well. This statue of a stallion and four mares are shown running through the rubble of the collapsed Berlin Wall. Created by Veryl Goodnight of Santa Fe, New Mexico, it sits in the courtyard at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, adjacent to the campus of Texas A&M University.

The sister casting of the statue was unveiled by former President George Bush in a free Berlin, as a gift from the American people to Germany in July, 1998.
