Recreations are a great way for museum visitors to get a feel for things that are long gone, or that they would never have an opportunity to normally experience. Walking through the Pacific Island Exhibit at the National Naval Aviation Museum, you run across the rustic bar “One-Eyed Jack’s.” This recreation highlights the few entertainment opportunities that were available to in WW2 soldiers serving in the Pacific Islands. My guess is that the pin-ups of starlets back home were almost as popular as the torpedo juice that was served.
