Airplanes are a lot like sports cars. They both have cool cockpits with lots of gauges. The more high performance the vehicle, the more gauges. The cockpit of a Boeing 747 looks more like a spacecraft than an airplane. But when you’re flying a massive jet of that size, you want to know everything about every system on board.

This cockpit is on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It was tricky to shoot, as it had a very thick plastic wall preventing you from get access to the area. It was crowded and reflections were an issue. The trick is to get your lens hood right up against the plastic to avoid the reflections. You do use a lens hood, don’t you? You can just see the outside of this display on the right side of this photo.
