Traveling through England and France last summer, we had a chance to visit several cathedrals. Each one offered a lesson in history as well as the culture of the area. The visits also offered an opportunity to learn a bit more about the Catholic faith and how the items found throughout the church are used.
The candles are used as symbolism and reflection and for the memory of those that died, especially if the person was considered a martyr for the Catholic faith. Candles are used during Mass, as well as throughout the day by visitors.
These candles were from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The glow of the many candles added to the mystique and old world atmosphere of each of the beautiful buildings we visited.
