Due west of Houston, lies the small town of Katy. It used to be far from the fourth largest city in the nation, but like many small rural areas, is was gradually swallowed by the urban sprawl. There are still trademarks of it’s history to be found. One is hard to miss, the rice mill. I can’t say whether it’s still in operation, but Katy does host the annual Rice Harvest Festival celebrating its agricultural heritage every October. It’s a genuine small festival with a parade and more.
