It had been a long day in Washington D.C. and we were looking for a fast way back to the hotel for a quick rest before going back out later. In Washington, that means the Metro subway. A kind police officer told us just a few blocks over was Union Station.
Wow, what a treat. This majestic building is huge and offers lots of surprises. Buses, trains and subways come and go all day. The underground is several levels deep, so you have to pay attention to the signs carefully. The street level still maintains the historic treatment, but everything underground is hi-tech and efficient. Opened in 1907, it serves 32 million people a year today.
