The neighborhood I live in goes a bit overboard at Christmas. Lights, lights and more lights. So much so, that on the weekends, you can hardly drive down the streets due to onlookers and trailers of people being pulled for hayrides as they sight-see.
We’ve learned to take it all in stride. We even sometimes ride around and check out the competition. I mean neighbors. There is no requirement that anyone put out lights, except the stigma that your house might be the only one on the block in the dark. This would not be a good thing. Your children would probably not let you live it down either and your nomination for Father of the Year would be revoked. My only complaint is that I feel like I just took the darn things down a few weeks ago!
Though this may not be my street, it is a few blocks over and is fairly representative of our neighborhood. During December, a walk after dark requires no flashlight.
